In the beginning...

There's no time to begin like the present, so although I really haven't figured the idea behind this blog out yet, I have decided to begin posting anyway.

I might as well begin with a brief introduction.

I'm a relatively green commercial real estate appraiser based in New York City. I managed to luck into a large appraising firm, which has exposed me to a breadth, depth, quality, and quantity of work that has enabled me to really learn a lot in a very short period of time. That being said, I am by no means a fount of knowledge...yet. I've only been in the industry for less than a year, but with every property I appraise I am picking up all the different nuances that makes my analysis that much faster and more insightful. I fully intend to be "The Guy To Talk To" in the near future.

I have several goals in writing this blog. Firstly, it's a good way to ensure that I keep up to date with the numerous going-ons in this industry. Next, I want to be able to provide a little assistance to the people curious about this career path and whether it is for them. Finally, I'd like this blog to be informative to real estate professionals and to anyone interested in learning and understanding the industry and the market conditions that affect it both nationally and internationally. Having come from overseas, I maintain a strong interest in international markets and would like to devote a good portion of this blog discussing those issues.

Appraising, at the end of the day, is applied economics combined with financial analysis so you're very likely to find discussions on current market conditions, the supporting data (go go Graphs!), and attempts at divining our real estate futures from the foggy crystal ball plastered all over this blog.

Nevertheless, I hope to be able to be yet another resource for the community and find my eventual niche along the way.
